State Announces Three New Sustainable Communities in Baltimore County
Great news for three Baltimore county areas. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development and Maryland Department of Planning have designated Catonsville/Patapsco, Greater Dundalk, and Hillendale/Parkville/Overlea as sustainable community areas under the state’s Sustainable Communities Act of 2010.
USRA To Stay in Howard County, Buys 90,000-Sq.Ft. Building at Columbia Gateway
The Universities Space Research Association (USRA) has recently purchased a 90,000-square-foot building in Corporate Office Properties Trust’s 630-acre Columbia Gateway business park. The acquisition means good news for Howard county, as the organization that conducts research for the U.S. Space Program had considered moving to other locations around the country.
Ground Broken on $400 Million Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
Ground was broken Wednesday, May 29, on Maryland’s newest casino, Horseshoe Baltimore. At the groundbreaking ceremony held by CBAC Gaming, LLC, the consortium developing the casino, Caesars Entertainment Chairman, President and CEO Gary Loveman joined Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings –Blake in throwing a pair of oversized, red dice on a ceremonial craps table, to mark the official start of construction on the $400 million facility.
Kaiser Permanente Opens The South Baltimore County Corner Medical Center in Halethorpe
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States, an award-winning not-for-profit health plan and care provider, has opened a new, state-of-the-art medical center this month, in Halethorpe, Maryland. Called the South Baltimore County Corner Medical Center, it will offer ”a broad array of services including specialty and primary care.”

Record of Decision Makes Baltimore Red Line Eligible for Future Federal Funds
Governor Martin O’Malley has announced on March 5 the Baltimore Red Line has received federal environmental approval. The Federal Transit Administration’s approval is called a record of decision. It makes the project eligible for future federal funding.
Baltimore Ravens to Invest $35M in Upgrades to the M&T Bank Stadium
NFL champions the Baltimore Ravens aren’t taking it easy after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. The team announced last Thursday it plans to invest $35 million to upgrade M&T Bank Stadium and enhance the fan experience.
