The Greater Baton Rouge area is about to get more homes. About 700 more homes.

Southern Lifestyle Development, the company that developed Lafayette’s Village at River Ranch, hopes to start work in late summer or early fall on a new housing project in Central, according to The Advocate. Called The Settlement on Shoecreek, it will occupy more than 150 acres of land and will feature a mix of apartments, cottages, townhomes and single-family homes, as well as retail and office space.

The project is designed by Lafayette-based Architects Southwest. Once complete, the walkable community will offer numerous amenities, including jogging trails, lakes, parks, pools and a village square for concerts.

Southern Lifestyle Development’s Prescott Bailey told The Advocate that prices will start in the mid-$200,000s for the smaller townhomes and cottages. The larger estate homes will cost north of $500,000.

The project still needs to obtain approvals before work can start. It will go before the Central Planning and Zoning Commission in March.

The Settlement on Shoecreek will be Southern Lifestyle Development’s second traditional neighborhood development in Central. In 2009, the company started work on the 185-acre Village at Magnolia Square development.
