Reimagined DC Office Asset Debuts
Designed by OTJ Architects, Liberty Property Trust's building now offers tenants an artsy lobby, café-style lounge, conference room, fitness center and bike storage.

OTJ Architects has completed the renovations of Liberty Property Trust’s 1100 17th St. NW, an office building in Washington, D.C. The interior architecture and design firm improved the asset’s form and function in order to offer an alternative social workspace for the existing tenants.
The property now features ground-floor amenity space, including a café-style lounge known as The Hive. OTJ also added a conference room, fitness center, bike storage and a new lobby with art components provided by a local artist. Street-level amenities include indoor/outdoor partitions, retail canopies and signage.
The 146,472-square-foot, 12-story building was completed in 1962 and underwent substantial renovations in 1998. It sits minutes away from Farragut Square, the White House and multiple subway stations. Notable tenants include the Corporate Council of Africa, Global Financial Integrity and The Efiia Group.
The OTJ team included Partner & Studio Director Ania Leeson and Senior Project Architect Jose Benitez. “Our goal was to identify the needs of the current tenant-base and expectations of future generations to produce common space with appeal to every user group,” Leeson said in a prepared statement.
In a recent deal, Liberty Property Trust earned a total of $106.9 million for the sale of a 12-property portfolio in suburban Philadelphia. The assets, which totaled 779,190 square feet, were sold in two separate transactions.
