Redfin, a national real estate brokerage, has expanded its operations to Tucson, Inside Tucson Business reported recently. The company’s services are available in Pima County, including Northwest, Northeast and Central Tucson.

Redfin represents both buyers and sellers of single family homes in 36 major markets of 20 U.S. states. The company has closed more than $19 billion in home sales. Their website features broker-listed homes for sale, as well as for-sale-by-owner properties that don’t pay brokers a commission. The online features include several tools designed for homeowners, such as a home value calculator, real time statistics etc. In 2012, Redfin was named one of The DIGITAL 100: World’s Most Valuable Private Tech Companies by Business Insider.

Local market manager Sara Fischer is in charge of the new Tucson branch. A seasoned veteran in the real estate business, she started her career as an agent in San Diego 19 years ago. At the moment, Fischer is the only member of Redfin’s Tucson team, but the company is prepared to hire. The company plans to continuously add employees, parallel with the growth in demand.

Agents will be paid on salary with bonuses based on consumer satisfaction instead of the number and value of effectuated transactions. They don’t spend time seeking out new clients, and this enables them to make savings for the clients’ benefit. Redfin charges sellers 1.5 percent, and for a $350,000 home in Tucson, the brokerage promises a $3,500 saving for the seller and a $1,550 refund at closing for the buyer.
