New York—Public Storage has opened a new facility in a revamped 100-year-old building. The property used to be run by the former Merchants Refrigeration Co. and was the largest cold storage commercial facility in the world.

The seven-story building is located at 133 2nd St., Jersey City, N.J., in the town’s historic arts district. The property will grow from 290 self-storage spaces currently available to approximately 4,000 units later this year, making it the company’s largest facility.

The property will attract both local and New York residents looking for cheaper storage options. Jersey City area affordability and its proximity to Manhattan, paired with recent gentrification, has led to a 7 percent population growth over the last five years according to the U.S. Census. The building is close to Holland Tunnel and the Newport PATH train station.

The property features a covered parking lot, a modern security monitoring system, climate-controlled units and a 24/7 on-site property manager for increased oversight. The units come in various sizes and prices to suit personal and business needs.
