Healthcare furniture is not often praised for its design, but commercial furniture company Nemschoff aims to change that. Proving that form doesn’t need to be sacrificed to function, the Ava Recliner is a modern, comfortable and compact seating option with all the qualities necessary for hospital or healthcare residence use. Designers David Ritch and Mark Saffell of 5d Studio created the wheeled chair to be easily operable while still maintaining a compact size.

Ava is easily customizable to maximize patient comfort with pivoting arms, infinite back recline from upright to reverse recline and controls on both arms for reclining features. The seat back design, with an optional pillow, has a headrest for comfort and support, and a rear pivot mimics the natural movements of the body.

With a wipe-out design, a gap between the seat and seat back allows crumbs and debris to fall to the floor, and makes cleaning convenient. Enclosed wheel casters prevent the collection of dust and debris. Replaceable components allow for product longevity as healthcare facilities can order new parts and replace them easily. Ava is made with dry construction, a method that uses mechanical fasteners rather than glue or screws, so damaged parts can be quickly replaced on site.

Optional features of the Ava recliner are a moisture barrier, central brake and steer, adjustable neck pillow and a choice of fabric applications.
