Next Tier HD has topped out on a data center located within the Coda development, in Atlanta’s Technology Square. DataBank will operate the 100,000-square-foot high-performance computing center (HPCC). Coda also includes a 645,000-square-foot office tower, currently in development by Portman Holdings.

The entire project is anchored by Georgia Institute of Technology, which sought a private/public collaboration to spur technological research in the area. Georgia Tech will provide access to its new supercomputers located within HPCC, proprietary applications and datasets, as well as on-site assistance from its academic staff.

DataBank will own and manage the HPCC, which will initially deliver 3.2 megawatts of critical power. Georgia Tech occupies most of the facility, with 1.2 megawatts available for lease. The company will eventually add more capacity, in 1.7-megawatt increments, up to 8.3 megawatts in total.

Innovation hub

The public/private partnership is taking place on the office front as well, with Georgia Tech occupying approximately half of the Coda office tower. The building will include 50,000 square feet of co-working space, collaborative areas on each floor, a 20,000-square foot outdoor living room and about 30,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

Next Tier tapped Gensler as architect for the project, kW Mission Critical Engineering for mechanical and electrical engineering, DPR as general contractor and MGAC as project manager. Coda is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2019.
