Site work has recently begun on a new shopping and restaurant hub. The shopping complex is being built on a 17-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Houghton and Old Vail Roads, across from Houghton Towne Center and approximately 1.5 miles from Interstate 10.

Construction of the project, dubbed Las Plazas at Old Vail, has begun with landscaping and grading works, the addition of a stormwater management system and common drive aisles along with the installation of underground utilities, curbs and parking lot lighting, according to AZRE: Arizona Commercial Real Estate Magazine. The land is divided into 15 lots with buildable areas of 3,000 to 19,000 square feet. These are being marketed for retail and restaurant use. First Vice President Nancy A. McClure and Associate Michael Laatsch of CBRE Retail Services have the marketing assignment on the property. The available lots are for sale to retail and commercial users as well as developers who want to provide build-to-suits and accommodate tenants.

The arrival of the new shopping location is welcomed by commercial agents as well as the surrounding community, because the city’s southeast region is currently considered an underserved area. “We already have two lots in escrow, and another is in negotiations with a contract out for signature; all three are national operators,”– said Nancy McClure. “As soon as our signs went up, we had residents calling to inquire about potential users and which restaurants might be locating at the property,” she added.
