San Antonio will soon be home to the United States’ first and only FORTIFIED for Safer Business™ commercial building. The project will house Nationwide Insurance, which plans to place 1,800 employees there, 800 of them new hires.

The Ohio-based Nationwide Insurance partnered with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, an independent scientific and educational organization, to design and build the property, which when finished will total approximately 300,000 square feet and stand three stories tall, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. Completion is expected next year.

In other interesting news, Via Metropolitan Transit will start construction work on a new facility in the South Texas Medical Center. Although this project has been talked about for years, construction is finally about to begin.

The new center will house a bus-rapid transit line and will have an information center, restrooms, an air-conditioned waiting area, vending machines, real-time bus arrival displays–and solar panels to provide electrical power.
