ChicagoMotorola Solutions, together with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, recently opened its new global headquarters at 500 W. Monroe in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. The first employees moved into the office building on Monday, marking the company’s return to Chicago. Motorola Solutions was founded on Harrison Street back in 1928.

“The story of Chicago and Motorola Solutions goes back nearly 90 years, and today we are writing a new chapter at their new home, right here in the City of Chicago,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement. “This new headquarters will employ hundreds of people and give Motorola Solutions the tools they need to grow for generations to come–access to talent, transportation and capital.”

Motorola’s new home will house roughly 800 employees, the company’s chief technology office, ventures group, software engineering team and corporate functions. The headquarters will also house an innovation center showcasing the company’s products and services. Motorola will also keep its current Americas Sales Headquarters at 224 S. Michigan Ave., where it occupies two floors with roughly 300 employees.

Motorola recently sold the remaining 225 acres of its Schaumburg, Ill., campus to a joint venture between UrbanStreet Group and Trilogy Investments. The firm will keep roughly 1,600 workers in two existing buildings at the site.
