MCZ Reveals Plans for Apartment Community at Former Edgewater Medical Center Site

MCZ Development has released renderings for a proposed 141-unit apartment complex at the site of the former Edgewater Medical Center in Chicago. According to a posting on 40th Ward Ald. Pat O’Connor’s website, the developer has submitted a TIF application to the city, requesting a total of $10.7 million to complete the envisioned project.
The site of the former Edgewater Medical Center on Ashland has been vacant for more than a decade. MCZ plans to close on the property by September 2015, if the proposal is approved by the city’s Department of Planning. According to DNA info, MCZ already owns the site of the center’s parking garage and plans to turn it into luxury homes.
MCZ’s proposal for the vacant medical center includes nine studio apartments, 100 one-bedrooms and 32 two-bedrooms. Of the 141 apartments, 29 would be affordable housing, as required by ordinance. The developer also intends to undertake adaptive re-use of some of the buildings and add 141 parking spots. Chicago-based Hartshorne Plunkard Architects is in charge of the design of the former medical center.
If MCZ’s proposal is approved, the developer plans to start construction work in the spring of 2016. Occupancy would be complete by March 2018.
