Marymount Students Have New Place to Crash at Cooper Square
It’s been more than one year since Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) started construction at its new dorms at the corner of 6th St. and Cooper Square in downtown Manhattan, and now the 12-story building is ready to welcome sophomore, junior, and senior residents.

It’s been more than one year since Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) started construction at its new dorms at the corner of 6th St. and Cooper Square in downtown Manhattan, and now the 12-story building is ready to welcome sophomore, junior, and senior residents.
The 12-story student residence is located at 200 E. 6th St. in the thriving East Village community and was built on a small lot that was previously occupied by a historic row house. MMC teamed up with Arun Bhatia Development Organization to construct the student dorm, which is situated outside MMC’s campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, at 221 East 71st Street.
Designed by Kossar + Garry Architects, the 50,000-square-foot student residence will be home to 272 residents each year in 54 apartments. MMC announced that 199 of its continuing students will be moving into the new building on August 28, while the remaining 73 spots have been contracted out to Cooper Union.
“We are thrilled to expand our student residence footprint in Manhattan to accommodate our growing student population, within the dynamic East Village neighborhood just a short commute to MMC’s main campus,” Emmalyn Yamrick, Director of Residence Life, said.
The list of amenities at the new MMC Cooper Square Residence Hall includes 24-hour security, fitness center on-site laundry facilities, outdoor terrace space on the seventh floor, bike storage spaces, 24-hour study space, and wireless internet throughout the building.
