Mandarin Oriental to Open First Property in Australia Tower
The hotel and residences will be located in a $227 million, mixed-use tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, in Melbourne. The property will feature 196 keys and 148 luxury apartments.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed a management contract for a signature hotel and residences in Melbourne, Australia. Located at 600 Collins St., the hotel will be housed in the $227 million mixed-use, 54-story building designed by the late renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Developed by Melbourne-based Landream and designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the new hotel is expected to open in 2023, as part of the ongoing regeneration of the city’s CBD. The property is in the heart of Melbourne’s financial and legal district, close to the Docklands and the Southbank tourist and entertainment area.
Inspiration from historic architecture
Mandarin Oriental, Melbourne will feature 196 guestrooms and suites. The group will also manage 148 luxury apartments on the tower’s upper floors. Residents will have access to hotel amenities, as well as their own private lounge. The hotel will feature a restaurant, spa, fitness center, indoor swimming pool and a bar with a landscaped roof terrace. There will also be several meeting spaces and an executive club lounge.
“This unique project…takes inspiration from the finest examples of historic architecture within the Central Business District, where details within the masonry bring a rich architectural rhythm to the city. The hotel’s façade reinterprets this historical detailing in a contemporary solution, introducing a delicate filigree that gently envelops the building,” said Zaha Hadid Architects Project Director Michele Pasca di Magliano, in a prepared statement.
