Real estate developer Merlin Entertainments will deliver the Northeast’s first LEGOLAND destination resort. The property will be located in Goshen, N.Y., and will include a theme park with educational components for children ages 2 to 12.

The $350 million LEGOLAND will open in 2020, and is expected to attract approximately two million visitors annually. New York will support the project by investing $18 million, improving the current road infrastructure, upgrading traffic signals and building a bridge over Route 17. The project will also receive $7.1 million in grants through the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative and $8 million through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative.

Community benefits

The theme park will occupy 170 acres, creating 1,300 jobs and 800 construction jobs. LEGOLAND New York will support Goshen by hosting two Community Days and donating 50 percent of the park’s ticket sale revenue to the town. Additionally, all residents will benefit from a 50 percent discount on one-day tickets to the park.

The park will be provided with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math  (STEAM) educational programs. The project will also train and employ students interested in the hospitality, business and mechanical engineering fields by partnering with local schools and colleges, which will be offered discounted tickets.

LEGOLAND New York will further anchor the Mid-Hudson region as a top-notch destination for visitors to New York State and will generate millions in local investment for the Town of Goshen. LEGOLAND New York’s commitment to community partnership—including donating a portion of its revenue to the community, strong educational opportunities and STEAM programming and workforce training—make this project a win-win for Orange County, Empire State Development President & CEO Howard Zemsky said in a prepared statement.

LEGOLAND theme parks are located in California and Florida, with the most recently opened worldwide location is LEGOLAND Japan
