Chesapeake, Va.—S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. has brokered the sale of a 16.8-acre lot at the intersection of Dominion Boulevard and Cedar Road in Chesapeake. Kroger Limited Partnership I bought the property from Chesapeake Development for a little over $8.2 million.

The new owner, which was represented in the sale by S.L. Nusbaum’s Vice President Tommy Drew, plans to construct a 124,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace.

The new destination, Kroger’s sixth in the Hampton Roads area, will encompass 94,000 square feet of grocery and approximately 30,000 square feet of general merchandise. The development is expected to create several hundred jobs in the area and to generate roughly $1 million per year in tax revenue. This is Kroger’s second Chesapeake marketplace, after the recently opened one situated at Battlefield Boulevard and the Hampton Roads Beltway.

The plot is located 10 miles south of central Norfolk and 14 miles southeast of the Chesapeake Square Mall. The new development will be neighbored by the Farm Fresh-anchored Dominion Plaza and the Walmart Supercenter-anchored Cahoon Commons.
