Redevelopment of the largest vacant parcels in Providence has taken a major step forward.

According to the Providence Journal, the Route 195 Redevelopment District Commission has retained Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. to market 17 parcels reclaimed by the city after the relocation of the I-195 highway.

Totaling 19 acres, the land is part of The LINK, a 41-acre site that officials say could support 3 million square feet of office, retail, residential and hospitality development. An 8-acre city park and a distinctive pedestrian bridge are also part of the plan. Those projects have full funding and will be complete in 2015-2016.

The commission is preparing a request for information for developers and businesses. Permitting time for approved proposals is estimated at three to four months.
