IHG to Open Fiji’s Largest Hotel

InterContinental Hotels Group has entered a management agreement with developers Quantum Hi-Tech Group Ltd. to build a Crowne Plaza hotel on Fiji’s East coast, in Nadi. The company claims the project will be Fiji’s largest of its kind when it will open, in 2020.

Crowne Plaza Wailoaloa Beach will be a 453-key hotel with direct access to the beach. The resort will feature five restaurants, a pool bar and a beach club. Among other common amenities, the plans boast an expansive conference room, a 24-hour fitness center, two swimming pools and a kid’s club. The property will be situated just 10 minutes from Nadi International Airport.

Accessible attractions

Viti Levu is the Republic of Fiji’s largest island, and from it, guests of the hotel will be able to quickly travel to the multiple attractions across the archipelago. The Mamanuca, Modriki and Mana islands are just off the coast and are also popular tourist destinations. Located on the main island, Koroyanitu National Heritage Park is about 40 minutes away, while Suva, Fiji’s capital, is a three-hour drive from the hotel along the island’s southern coast.

“As the most popular travel destination in the South Pacific, the islands of Fiji accounts for close to 40 percent of travel to the South Pacific, a figure that continues to grow annually. In 2017 alone, Fiji recorded an increase of 7.8 percent in the number of international travelers visiting the country. This strong growth potential represents a key opportunity for us to introduce the Crowne Plaza brand to Fiji,” said Rajit Sukumaran, chief development officer at IHG AMEA, in a prepared statement.

Earlier this year, IHG opened a 359-key Vietnam hotel, the country’s tallest.
