Holland Home’s Rehabilitation and Living Centre in Grand Rapids will expand this year with a memory-care assisted living unit and a new rehabilitation center.
Next month the non-profit senior care organization is set to break ground on a privately funded development on its Breton Woods campus located at 2772 Pfeiffer Woods Drive. Designed to quadruple the size and capacity of the existing campus, the project will include a new 4,560-square-foot rehabilitation center, and a single-story, 13,400-square-foot memory care assisted living unit with 15 beds for residents with dementia.
According to Holland Home, the new rehabilitation center will feature a therapy gym, as well as rooms for physical therapy and occupational therapy, while the assisted living space will also include a den, residential style kitchen, spa, nurses station and office space.
Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2015, the $6.5 million expansion project will be built by Ada Township-based Erhardt Construction under plans designed by Post Associates Architects of Grand Rapids. Once the rehab center and assisted living unit are completed, Holland Home will hire up to 15 universal workers, nurses and social workers to accommodate the multi-million dollar expansion.
Listed among the top 20 percent senior care and nursing homes in Michigan, the Breton Rehabilitation and Living Centre (the former Breton Manor) was acquired by Holland Home in 1990. According to the Grand Rapids Business Journal, the rehab center began offering residential hospice care in 1997. Two years later the campus expanded with a combination of duplex, triplex and fourplex residences called Breton Homes. A few years later the campus expanded with the 400,000-square-foot Breton Terrace that was built in three phases between June 2000 and May 2005 by Erhardt Construction. In 2008 Holland Home celebrated the opening of Breton Ridge, another independent living building that brings under the same roof residential units and recreational space.
