First Hyatt Place Hotel Opens in Malaysia

Melaka Gateway, Malaysia

Malacca City, Malaysia—A Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with Eosh Properties, an affiliate of KAJ Development, to develop Hyatt Place Melaka Gateway, Malaysia. The 200-key hotel is slated for opening in late 2019 in Malacca City.

“Hyatt Place Melaka Gateway will be the first Hyatt Place hotel in Malaysia. The opening of this hotel will mark a significant milestone for Hyatt as the Hyatt Place brand continues to expand worldwide and offer more choices to our guests in key gateway cities,” David Udell, group president for the Asia Pacific region with Hyatt Hotels Corp., said in prepared remarks.

The new 25-story hotel will include more than 2,690 square feet of function space, a rooftop swimming pool and a poolside bar. Located on the western coast of Malacca City, Hyatt Place Melaka Gateway, Malaysia will feature views of the Strait of Melaka and will be just a short distance away from the Hatten Square shopping district and numerous historical attractions, including Dutch Square.

The hotel will be a key component of the Melaka Gateway mixed-use project, which is currently being constructed by KAJ Development. Comprising three reclaimed islands, the project will include office towers, multifamily residences, hotels, an extensive convention center, shopping centers, a 328-foot high Ferris wheel, a landmark lighthouse and one of the largest cruise terminals in Asia. Melaka Gateway is scheduled for completion in 2025.
