Economy Watch Weekly: April Job Growth Below Expectations

The U.S. economy did not create as many jobs as expected for the month, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics latest jobs report. Economy Editor Dees Stribling breaks down the numbers, for the week ending May 4, 2018.

The U.S. economy created a modest 164,000 new jobs in April, below the 189,000 that were forecast for the month. While the gain is more than the revised total of 135,000 jobs in March, it is less than the average monthly gain of 191,000 jobs over the last 12 months.
