Dublin—Hotel operator daa has recently announced plans for the development of a 402-key, terminal-linked hotel located next to Dublin Airport. The company has tapped consultant Savills Hotels & Leisure to find the developer, which will also be operating the property before transferring it back to daa at the end of an agreed term.

Planning permission has already been granted for the four-star asset, which is also set to become Ireland’s fourth largest hotel. Construction plans consist of an 11-story building located on a prime 0.81-acre site between Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2 and the T2 multi-story car park. The 225,848-square-foot property will also feature a bar, a restaurant, a café, plus conference and fitness facilities.

“There is significant demand for a new terminal-linked hotel at Dublin Airport and this development will benefit not just the airport but the city and region as a whole as Dublin needs more hotel beds,” Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said in prepared remarks. “It will also provide employment for 250 people, as well as a further 150 construction jobs during the building programme, which is expected to last about 18 months.”

According to the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC), an additional 5,000 guest rooms are needed by 2020 in order to meet Dublin’s increasing demand. The Dublin Airport hotel is slated to break ground next year in October and is scheduled to open in 2019.
