Edge colocation company DartPoints has entered the Louisiana market with the acquisition of data center provider Venyu, growing its operating portfolio by three facilities. The properties are in Baton Rouge and Shreveport. DartPoints will consolidate the assets under its own brand after a few months’ transition period, Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Greenberg told Commercial Property Executive.

Venyu was the data center infrastructure and cloud services provider subsidiary of REV, a Louisiana-based private telecommunications provider. No financial details were disclosed.

This acquisition brought DartPoints’ portfolio to 11 data centers across 10 markets, comprising 325,000 square feet of space and 20 megawatts of power.

Two of the newly acquired facilities, BTR1 and BTR2, are within the Bon Carre Business Center in downtown Baton Rouge, at 7127 and 7139 Florida Blvd. Including office space, the facilities measure 47,000 and 27,000 square feet, respectively. The property in Shreveport is at 601 Milam St. and totals 87,000 square feet.

All three data centers are colocation facilities and feature redundant network infrastructure and multiple fiber providers, along with redundant power supply. BTR 1 and BTR2 have their own mechanical systems and infrastructure, as well as separate entrances.

Expanding in an underserved market

“We have identified underserved markets where we can bring our capabilities and product portfolio into those markets, and Louisiana fits that description. Currently, if a customer in Louisiana wants advanced services, they may have to backhaul to Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago or another major Tier 1 market to receive those services or cobble them together from multiple providers,” Greenberg told CPE.

DartPoints opted for a hybrid model of ownership—some facilities are leased, and some are owned directly. According to CommercialEdge, Bon Carre Business Center was acquired by EdgePWR in 2020 for an undisclosed amount.

In 2020, Astra Capital Management opted for a majority investment in DartPoints to support its expansion plans across North America. In 2021, DartPoints acquired Immedion, more than doubling its portfolio. Currently, the company is looking to enter new markets that fit its profile, as well as further densify existing ones, Greenberg said.
