Columbus Office Tower Earns Energy Star Certification

Columbus, Ohio—Town Center, a 15-story office building at 140 E. Town St. in Columbus has earned the Energy Star certification awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The property’s manager, Continental Realty, and its partner, The Commercial Energy Group, spearheaded the environmentally-friendly efforts.

As a result of managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements, the 169,300-square-foot building now performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide.

The improvement process included an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit, interior and exterior lighting conversion to LED; a comprehensive Retro-commissioning (tune-up) program of the HVAC and Building Automation Systems.

Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s Energy Star certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings, while releasing 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment, ” Jean Lupinacci, chief of the Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch, said in prepared remarks. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”

There are currently over 46 Energy Star properties in Columbus.
