AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company is expanding its Mecklenburg County operations in Innovation Park, a 200-acre office campus in Charlotte, N.C. The company plans to invest approximately $18 million and add 550 new jobs during the next five years.

AXA opened its Life Operations headquarters at 8501 IBM Drive in Innovation Park in 2013, setting a new standard as a more open and collaborative environment. By expanding its operations, AXA’s Charlotte office will become the company’s largest U.S. location, while the U.S. corporate headquarters will remain in New York.

“AXA looks forward to growing in Charlotte, and we appreciate the support from the state of North Carolina, the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County,” said Mark Pearson, chairman, president & CFO of AXA U.S. “We know from our experience that Charlotte is a great place to attract a talented workforce, allowing us to grow our business and better serve our customers,” he added.

The life insurance company will bring a variety of jobs to Charlotte, including IT, finance, legal, accounting, customer service, HR and other functions that will support overall company growth. The expansion benefits from a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. These grants reimburse new and expanding companies with a portion of the newly created tax-base while increasing the revenue benefit to the State of North Carolina.

“Financial services companies like AXA have found a fertile environment for their operations in the Charlotte region, where they can attract talent and grow their business,” said Governor Roy Cooper in prepared remarks. “We’re glad that this global financial protection company will be expanding again and establishing a regional headquarters in our state.” he added.
