HOLT CAT and Alamo Beer Co. both announced projects last week in Southern Texas.

HOLT CAT broke ground on a 24,000-square-foot store in the Los Lomas Industrial Park in Laredo, according to the San Antonio Business Journal. The new facility will be certified LEED Gold for efficiency. The new store is planned for a January 2013 opening.

The company is developing the store with the goal of selling or renting more Caterpillar equipment, according to the Business Journal. This is the second HOLT CAT store in Laredo, the first one having been built in 1978.

Alamo Beer submitted plans for a new brewery facility on San Antonio’s East Side, near the historic Hays Street Bridge. According to the San Antonio Express-News, the plan includes a request to purchase 1.7 acres of land from the city for construction of the 25,000-square-foot brewery.

According to the newspaper, the land has been assessed at $256,180. Projects costs are estimated at $5 million, including the equipment, the property and the construction. If the city council approves the project by May 2012, the facility is expected to be operational by the summer of next year.

Guido Brothers Construction is the general contractor for the project, while the designer is local firm Lake|Flato Architects.
