MGM Resorts International is one of the world’s leading global hospitality companies and the developer of the MGM National Harbor, a nearly $1 billion gaming resort located in National Harbor, the waterfront development on the shores of the Potomac River. On June 24, the company announced it has hired Whiting-Turner as Prime General Contractor for the project. With this final hurdle out of the way, construction is expected to start within weeks.

South Cathedral Mansions is a landmark apartment building located 2900 Connecticut Avenue, NW, in D.C.’s Woodley Park neighborhood. It was constructed in 1922 by the iconic team of Harry Wardman and Mihran Mesrobian and is currently included in both the National Register of Historic Places and the D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites. During its almost one hundred years of existence, South Cathedral Mansions only changed hands four times, the last sale taking place recently.

Washington, D.C. is working hard to become one of the greenest cities in the United States and in the world. And its efforts seem to be paying off. Recently, CBRE Group, Inc. and Maastricht University, a public university in Maastricht, the Netherlands, have released the 2014 Green Building Adoption Index, a study which ranks the top 30 U.S. cities with the highest percentage of green commercial space. Washington, D.C. occupies tenth place on the list.

The JBG Companies and TIAA-CREF are doing business again. At the start of the month, JBG sold the The Louis at 14th/U, a residential and retail development located in the heart of the U Street Corridor-Logan Circle neighborhood, to the financial services firm. Now, the Chevy Chase-based company has closed the sale of The Woodley, a new residential development in Washington, D.C.’s desirable Woodley Park neighborhood. The price of the transaction was not disclosed. HFF arranged the sale between JBG and TIAA-CREF.

Downtown Washington, D.C. is one of the ”brightest spots in the country for home sales and appreciation rates.” This is how Donna Evers, president and broker of Evers & Co. Real Estate describes the region. Her company is the largest independent, woman-owned real estate firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It has recently analyzed statistics from the Metropolitan Regional Information System and has reported that the Downtown Washington, D.C. housing market has enjoyed a merry month of May.

The American Society of Landscape Architects is greening the District’s streets. Well, not all of them, just the ones surrounding its headquarters, in Chinatown. ASLA is working on the Chinatown Green Streets Demonstration Project, a project meant to help the District become one of the greenest cities on the planet.
