Cancer Center Completes 1st Phase of $23M Renovation and Expansion Project
Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center started work in June, 2013, on a $23 million renovation and expansion project of its facility in Baton Rouge. The goal of the project is to upgrade building systems and help enhance the services provided to patients throughout their treatment. It reached an important milestone earlier this month, when the center announced the completion and opening of the phase one areas.

Virginia Beach City Council has unanimously approved the rezoning of a 16-acre tract of land earlier this month. The site is located in the Princess Anne Commons area and will now be used for the development of a luxury apartment community.

The U.S. General Services Administration, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense, has recently renewed its lease for 606,575 square feet of space at Hoffman Tower II, in Alexandria’s urban center. The transaction represents the largest lease signed in the D.C. area this past year.

Cuyahoga County Finally Opens New Administrative HQs
The new Cuyahoga County Administrative Headquarters building is finally open for business. Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, County Council President C. Ellen Connally, and Fred Geis of Geis Companies were present on July 15, at 2079 East 9th Street, to celebrate the event. The new headquarters will be home to more than 600 county employees.
Greystar to Develop 400-Unit, 34-Story Residential Tower in Tysons Corner
At the start of July, a 1.8-acre site in the Spring Hill Station mixed-use project, in Tysons Corner, changed hands for an undisclosed amount. The buyer was GDM Spring Hill Station LLC, a joint venture between The Georgelas Group Cos., T-Rex Capital Group LLC and Dierman Realty Group LLC. Shortly after the acquisition, the joint venture sold a portion of the parcel to Greystar, a South Carolina developer with big plans in the area.
Northrop Grumman Breaks Ground on $20M Space Assembly and Test Facility in Linthicum
Northrop Grumman Corporation is adding another building to its 129-acre campus in Anne Arundel County. The company officially broke ground on Monday, July 14, on a new Space Assembly and Test (M-SAT) facility. Senator Ben Cardin, Representatives C. A. Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes, and many others joined Gloria Flach, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems, in Linthicum for the ground breaking ceremony.
Columbia Pike Streetcar to Get $65M in New State Funding from Commonwealth of Virginia
Great news for the Columbia Pike Streetcar. The Commonwealth of Virginia will increase its funding to the project by up to $65 million. This will bring the state’s contribution to as much as 50% of total design and construction costs of the streetcar project.

Mayor Holden Celebrates Completion of $27.8M Staring Lane Project
Good news for drivers going through East Baton Rouge Parish. Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 9, at the General Assembly Church of Baton Rouge, at 420 Staring Lane, to mark the completion of the Staring Lane project. At a cost of $27.8 million, the project is one of the largest road construction projects included within the Green Light Plan.
