Alexander & Baldwin appointed James Mead as chief financial officer, effective immediately. Mead succeeds Paul Ito, who will continue as senior vice president of finance and treasurer of the company through the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.

Extensive CRE experience

Most recently, Mead served as chief financial officer for SL Green Realty Corp., a real estate investment trust and the largest office landlord in New York City. He held this position from late 2010 to early 2015, a period during which the company realized a 75 percent increase in its stock price. Prior to joining SL Green, Mead served as chief financial officer of Strategic Hotels & Resorts, from 2004 to 2010, and Irvine Co. Apartment Communities, from 1996 to 1999, and held executive positions with both Irvine Co. and JP Morgan.

We are fortunate to find someone with Jim’s broad experience in commercial real estate and real estate investment trusts, deep knowledge of capital markets, and proven track record in leading and developing strong financial teams.  He will be an invaluable addition to our leadership team as we focus on our strengths in commercial real estate and work to effect our conversion to a real estate investment trust,” said Chris Benjamin, A&B president & CEO.

Academic background

Mead holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Tulane University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Virginia. He currently serves on the board of directors for Easterly Government Properties and the Boards of Advisors for The CenterCap Group and Tulane University School of Science and Engineering.
