The Learning Curve: From College to Career in Industrial Brokerage
Kidder Mathews Senior Associate Tobias Hipp sits down with CPE’s Mikayla Sciortino to discuss career growing pains and personal experiences in his career in industrial brokerage.

Starting a career comes with its share of growing pains. It’s an anxiety-provoking time that lays the foundation for both personal and professional growth. Career assumptions, navigating a new day-to-day routine after college and initial mistakes are expected during these times.
In the inaugural episode of The Learning Curve, Kidder Mathews Senior Associate Tobias Hipp shares his firsthand experience of what his career in industrial brokerage has entailed thus far and what has kept him going over the first few years.
“I had never had a sales job before,” Hipp said. Through a close relationship with his mentor, a educational background in real estate finance and a long-standing interest in the industry, Hipp has been able to make a name for himself as an industrial broker with Kidder Mathews.

Known as “the 60 Corridor Specialist,” Hipp was hired in June 2022 after graduating from Colorado State University. Starting out as a junior associate, Hipp relied on a strong work ethic—putting in 12-hour days, making cold calls and building a strong network—to turn a dream into a career.
Through his experience, Hipp has learned how to navigate clients’ emotions and what to do when deals aren’t getting done. He says the commission is a great perk of the job and doesn’t hurt when it comes to staying motivated. Looking ahead, continuing to build his network and move up the ladder are what excites him most.
