Mill Steel Co., a distributor of flat-rolled carbon steel, opened a new facility in Houston, Texas, and plans to expand its steel structural products (SSP) cold-formed steel framing manufacturing operations.
The new 100,000-square-foot facility encompasses three production lines with the capability of slitting 50,000 lb. master coils up to 60 inches wide and .015-.25 inches thick. The company is currently installing roll-forming lines to allow for full stud and accessory line manufacturing.
“We are thrilled to be entering the robust Texas marketplace, as this new location will enhance the efficiency of SSP’s material procurement, manufacturing and logistical network,” Pam Heglund, president of Mill Steel Co., said in a prepared statement.
Strategic market choice
The expansion in steel structural product’s footprint is part of a strategy to become a nationwide distributor. It supports SSP’s construction and residential framing business in the southern U.S. In addition, the geographic advantages and the proximity to the Port of Houston will increase SSP’s distribution reach.
