The hot Baton Rouge apartment market continues to attract developers to the area. Recently, a New York-based student housing company announced its plans to build a 280-unit apartment complex on a site located just outside the South Gates of the LSU campus.
According to The Advocate, Park7 Group, a firm founded in 2010 by a group of student housing professionals, has filed an application with the city-parish Planning Commission to rezone a 2.62-acre area bordered by West Parker Boulevard, East Boyd Drive, Swire Avenue and Dodson Avenue. It will go before the commission at its Dec. 15 meeting.
The project is called Park7 Apartments and, for the time being, its cost and many other details are still unknown. What is known is that plans call for the construction of a six-story apartment building with numerous amenities, including a pool, clubhouse, a fitness center, a theater and a game room. The complex will also include a six-story parking garage, with 749 parking spaces.
The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report said Dallas-based Humphreys and Partners is the project’s architect, with the Duplantis Design Group in charge of design and engineering. The newspaper also reported that the 2.62-acre area consists of several tracts. One of the owners told it that no property has yet changed hands.
If the city-parish Planning Commission gives its approval, work on the project could start in the summer of 2015. Paul Levine, executive vice president of development and a partner with Park7, told The Advocate that Park7 Apartments could open in time for the 2017 fall semester.
