Shoppers in the Washington, D.C., metro area now have a new retail destination, just in time for the holiday season. On Nov. 22, Tanger Outlets National Harbor celebrated its grand opening. It will feature 80 popular brand-name and designer outlet stores.
Tanger Outlets National Harbor is a 340,000-square-foot upscale outlet center located eight miles southeast of Washington, D.C. Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. broke ground on the $100 million retail center last November. The Greensboro, N.C.-based publicly traded REIT worked on the project together with the Peterson Cos. The two companies co-own the outlet center.
The new facility is located at the base of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. It is easily accessible from the Capital Beltway, I-95, I-495 and I-295. Its tenant roster includes White House Black Market, Calvin Klein, Gap, Halston Heritage, American Eagle Outfitters, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic, Theory, Elie Tahari, Brooks Brothers, Aeropostale, Coach, Hugo Boss, J. Crew, Peter Millar, Diane von Furstenberg, Le Creuset and many more.
Tanger Outlets said in a press release that the new center will provide a boost to the region’s economy through sales and property tax revenues, as well as job creation. Tanger Outlets National Harbor has more than 900 full- and part-time employees. Six hundred jobs were created during construction.
“The opening of the Tanger Outlets National Harbor will have a major economic impact on Prince George’s County and the state of Maryland. These outlets will attract regional visitors, offer wonderful opportunities for our residents to ‘shop local,’ and most important, create jobs for thousands of Prince George’s County citizens,” said County Executive Rushern L. Baker III in a statement for the press.
Tanger Outlets and the Peterson Cos. are also jointly developing a new outlet center in Clarksburg, Md., 27 miles northwest of D.C. and 36 miles west of Baltimore. The two companies announced the project earlier this year.
