Vacaville, Calif.-based LifeSpace Labs announced the launch of a coworking wet lab space facility targeted at life sciences startups. Situated at 3333 Vaca Valley Parkway along Interstate 80’s so-called “Life Science Corridor,” the facility will offer flexible memberships for innovative companies that would not normally be able to afford specialized wet lab space.

Ideally located between UC Davis and UC Berkeley, the coworking life sciences property will offer up to 8,600 square feet of coworking space, warehouse space and wet labs. Startups can also choose between private and coworking wet labs, the latter of which is designed to encourage collaboration and networking. The venture offers a perfect mix between life sciences and coworking, offering the best of both worlds. For instance, tenants have access to shared equipment — such as centrifuges, incubation appliances and biosafety cabinets — as well as lab services, like compressed gas and biohazard waste removal.

Notably, life sciences has recently established itself as one of the most competitive industries. In particular, clusters in the Boston and San Francisco metros are receiving ample attention in terms of property development and conversion. However, for smaller companies that cannot access the high-end equipment required, shared offices such as LifeSpaces Labs’ initiative can provide flexibility until expansion is possible.

The new property also aims to help life sciences professionals and entrepreneurs create meaningful connections within the industry that can help them innovate and thrive. To that end, members can also attend regular networking events, such as demo days, pitch events, lectures and mixers. New members also receive complimentary, one-year subscriptions to Biocom California, a life sciences association focused on the growth of the industry within the Golden State.

San Francisco and its surrounding areas have become some of the foremost life sciences hubs in the nation. At the same time, investors have turned their eyes to the industry as life sciences properties have shown their resilience amid the ongoing market conditions, and companies in the metro are also benefiting from the output of talent from northern California’s many universities.
