Description
North Philadelphia--Brewerytown--Francisville--Templetown. NORTH PHILA is regarded as everything north of either Vine Street or Spring Garden Street, between NW and NE Philadelphia. BREWERYTOWN runs approximately between the Schuylkill River's eastern bank and 25th Street, bounded by Cecil B. Moore Avenue to the north and Parrish Street to the south. Brewerytown got its name because of the numerous breweries that were located along the Schuylkill during the late 19th century and early 20th century. It is now primarily a residential neighborhood, with a growing and active commercial sector along Girard Avenue. FRANCISVILLE'S boundaries are Fairmount Avenue to the south, Girard Avenue to the north, Broad Street to the east, and Corinthian Avenue to the west. It is sometimes considered to be a part of the Fairmount neighborhood, but Fairmount more specifically lies to Francisville's west. To its south is the Spring Garden neighborhood. The neighborhood is served by Broad Street Subway stations at Fairmount and Girard, the SEPTA Route 15 trolley on Girard Avenue, in addition to the 2, 33, and 61 bus routes. Cecil B. Moore (aka TEMPLETOWN) is a neighborhood loosely arranged around the main campus of Temple University. The Cecil B. Moore neighborhood extends from 6th street to the east, York street to the north, 17th street to the west, and Girard avenue to the south.
