The Town of Avon is located five miles west of Indianapolis in Hendricks County and is ten minutes away from Indianapolis International Airport. It is bordered to the north by Brownsburg, to the west by Danville, the Hendricks County seat, to the south by Plainfield, and to the east by the city of Indianapolis in Marion County. U.S. Route 36 is the main east–west road through the town, leading east 13 miles (21 km) to downtown Indianapolis and west 7 miles (11 km) to the center of Danville. The Indianapolis Zoo and the Butterfly Paradise Nature Center are both located nearby. Local amusement parks include Splash Island, Blast Off and the Caribbean Cove Indoor Water Park. Those interested in history can visit museums like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Avon hosts the Community Heritage Festival every year. Nearby colleges and universities include Butler University, Ivy Tech State College-Central Indiana, the University of Indianapolis and Anderson University.
