Angola is best known for its 101 natural lakes and Indiana's most popular state park, Pokagon State Park. Lake James is located in northern Angola and Indiana's third largest lake. Pokagon State Park is located on the banks of Lake James on State Road 127, Interstate 69 and near Interstate 80/90, It is comprised of 1,260 acres and has the state's only toboggan slide, and also has hiking trails, biking trails, boat rentals, and the historic Potawatomi Inn. The park draws more than 750,000 visitors annually. Along with the state park, the 101 lakes in Steuben County triple the population during the summertime. Indiana, known as the crossroads of the United States, is easily accessible to major economic cities including Chicago and Toledo via Interstate 80/90. Interstate 80/90, Indiana's Toll Road, and Interstate 69 both pass directly through Angola and have an excess of 36 million passenger vehicles pass through annually. Angola continues to see growth with new developments in the area. Trine University, located in Indiana and in close proximity to Michigan and Ohio, is rated among the Midwest's best universities. There are currently over 5,000 enrolled students, with the main campus covering over 450 acres. The University completed a $7.5 million, 700-seat ice arena for collegiate and recreational use in the summer of 2017. It also completed a new $13.3 million MTI Center as the newest addition to the campus. The building is comprised of 74,840 square feet and includes 3,500 seats. Not only is Angola experiencing development within Downtown and the University’s Campus, Vestil Manufacturing recently invested $15 million to expand its ‘Plant 1’ and construct a new 250,000 square foot fulfillment center at the corner of Pokagon rail and Growth Parkway. The expansion is set to create 100 new jobs by 2021. The growth of the city and visitors has allowed for a new 99-room Wingate by Wyndham to open in May. The Wingate is located at I-69/20. Currently ranked 3rd, Angola is nominated as USA Today’s Top Ten Best Historic Small Town. Site Selection Magazine also ranked Angola as a Top 10 US Micropolitan city for the past six years in a row..
