Tate & Lyle (TATYF) is another industry driver in Decatur. They process grain into food grade meals, oils or other biproducts. Other significant employers are Decatur Public School District, Decatur Memorial Hospital, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, and Millikin University. Decatur is an industrial town as far as business sectors, but 58% of the work force is white collar, 25% blue collar and 17% in services. 57% of the population has some college or bachelor’s degree or higher education.
