Banks Cold Storage Breaks Ground on New Athens, Ga., Facility
Banks Cold Storage — a Commerce, Ga.-based industrial real estate developer and operator specializing in cold storage facilities — has broken ground on construction of a cold storage property near Athens, Ga., about 70 miles east of Atlanta. The property will total more than 210,000 square feet of industrial space near Atlanta and was designed by Melbourne, Fla.-based Ti Cold.
The new facility will feature cutting-edge amenities and features from the field of cold storage, including the latest refrigeration and freezing technologies. Other perks will include 65-foot building heights, narrow aisle racking for more efficient use of storage space, as well as push-back racking. Special technologies implemented in Banks’ new development will also allow for simultaneous blast freezing and pallet racking. The property is expected to be delivered in 2025 as one of the first designs of its kind in the U.S.

The flexible design will also be able to maintain temperatures between 40°F and -20°F based on the need through the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants in low volumes. In addition to two types of freezer space, the facility will also house two office spaces of almost 6,000 square feet each. Banks Cold Storage aims to offer future customers third-party refrigerated logistics through the new Athens facility, thereby allowing it to fulfill customer orders from order processing to freezing and shipping. In particular, Banks will target companies such as food wholesalers, retailers and food manufacturers in the central Georgia area.
