He added that &#8220;the economy is growing at a solid pace, the unemployment rate has been broadly stable and inflation remains somewhat elevated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powell also declined to expand on his response to the Department of Justice investigation, instead referring to his previous <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KckGHaBLSn4?si=lUMs4tAfhMNTyLXZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">video statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/where-opportunity-lies-in-2026\/\">Where Opportunity Lies in 2026<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Two Fed Governors, Stephen Miran and Christopher Walker, voted against the decision to hold rates steady, preferring to cut rates by 25 basis points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FOMC&#8217;s decision to hold rates steady came as no surprise to the commercial real estate industry, which had largely been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/what-cre-is-watching-for-at-the-fed-meeting-tomorrow\/\">expecting the outcome<\/a>. Pete O&#8217;Neil, national director of research at Northmarq, noted that the Fed\u2019s action was in line with its recent moves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis (follows) a similar pattern to what we saw at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, with consecutive cuts late in the year followed by periods of no action,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Fed\u2019s dual mandate focuses on labor markets and inflation, and both ended 2025 in relatively healthy shape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-it-means-for-cre\">What it means for CRE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While it might be tempting to wish for a rate cut, several industry executives who spoke to&nbsp;<em>Commercial Property Executive&nbsp;<\/em>said that holding rates steady might actually be what\u2019s best for commercial real estate right now because it offers stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStability gives buyers, sellers and lenders more confidence to move forward instead of staying on the sidelines,\u201d Karine Aslanian, a broker associate &amp; commercial advisor at The Agency, told <em>CPE<\/em> before the FOMC\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, over the long term, the industry will continue to hope for at least a few more rate cuts this year in order to reduce financing burdens and boost transaction activity, especially for the office sector, where investors are especially wary of higher rates and risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeals that would not pencil with rates in the mid-to-high sixes might work if rates continue to decline and reach the low fives or below,\u201d said Scott Hensley, principal &amp;
