Golden Plains is being developed by local company Diode Ventures, a wholly owned subsidiary of Black &amp; Veatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta noted that, as with all of its data centers, the Kansas City facility is certified LEED Gold and further, that its electricity is matched with 100 percent clean and renewable energy. Also on the green side, the use during construction of storm water from onsite retention ponds reportedly saved more than 1 million gallons of potable water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/data-center-industry-sets-new-records\/\">Data Center Industry Sets New Records<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Brad Davis, Meta\u2019s data center community and economic development director, stated that Kansas City\u2019s \u201cexcellent infrastructure [and] robust electrical grid\u201d were significant factors in Meta\u2019s choice of KC for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turner Construction was the general contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta reportedly donated more than $1 million to schools and nonprofits in Clay County, Platte County and the City of Kansas City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-keeping-the-great-plains-great\">Keeping the Great Plains great<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent report from Cushman &amp; Wakefield ranked Kansas City sixth among the emerging data center markets in the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGrowing demand for large-scale power, abundant land and relaxed latency requirements for AI has also driven hyperscalers and operators to expand into historically peripheral markets like Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Carolinas,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in August, Meta selected Pacific Investment Management and Blue Owl to secure a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/meta-picks-winners-for-29b-data-center-deal\/\">$29 billion financing deal<\/a> supporting its data center expansion in Louisiana.
