New York City, Denver, Los Angeles, Portland, Ore., and San Francisco saw increases below the national average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following 20 months of decline, Rider Levett Bucknall\u2019s Architectural Billings Index is 50.3, showing a balance between firms with increased and decreased billings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/construction-cost-increases-hit-3-year-low\/\">In the third quarter,<\/a> construction costs were up 1.07 percent nationally, the lowest increase in the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-inflation-vs-tariffs\">Inflation vs. tariffs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A key finding from the research highlights the relative impact of inflation versus tariffs on construction material costs, Paul Brussow, president of Rider Levett Bucknall, told <em>Commercial Property Executive.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen analyzing specific materials like rebar and structural steel, the data reveals that regional inflation has had a far greater effect on costs than tariffs,\u201d Brussow said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cApplying this trend to future forecasts suggests that efforts to mitigate financial risks should focus less on tariffs and more on regional inflation impacts, which consistently proves to be the primary driver of material cost increases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/construction-industry-gears-up-for-growth\/\">Will Your Construction Costs Go Up in 2025?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Although he anticipates more volatility than last year, the construction industry is well-positioned to respond strategically, Andrew Volz, research manager of project and development services at JLL, told <em>CPE<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome reliable bright spots are on the horizon, including data centers, health care, manufacturing, energy and other infrastructure,\u201d Volz said. \u201cThese industries demand a lot from the construction industry, and those needs will continue evolving and growing for the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volz added that commercial real estate is only increasing in complexity as we\u2019re looking toward future economies, cities, and people living and working in them.
