{"id":1004705415,"date":"2024-03-08T05:12:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-08T13:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/?p=1004705415"},"modified":"2024-03-11T06:39:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T14:39:06","slug":"has-the-return-to-office-trend-peaked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/has-the-return-to-office-trend-peaked\/","title":{"rendered":"Has the Return-to-Office Trend Peaked?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The history of the post-pandemic \u201creturn to office\u201d is not yet resolved, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/urlisolation.com\/browser?clickId=344C0867-20E3-41FB-8B70-E743168EA90D&amp;traceToken=1709760369;yardi_hosted;https:\/cK3Xt04.na1.hubspotlinks.&amp;url=https:\/\/go.placer.ai\/wp2\/the-return-to-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new report from Placer.ai<\/a>, and that means that it\u2019s still hard to make complete sense of it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Placer.ai\u2019s analysis of office building foot traffic over the past several years shows that after nosediving during COVID, office visits across the U.S. began an upward climb in 2021, reaching about 70 percent of January 2019 levels in August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recovery seems to have stalled at that time, Placer.ai reports, leading some to conclude that RTO has peaked. Although higher-HHI (household income) employees typically sheltered at home during the early pandemic period, and have access to remote and hybrid work arrangements, more and more of them are part of the RTO trend. Similarly, high-HHI young singles too were prominent in RTO in 2023, as were affluent Gen Xers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Placer.ai states that \u201cearly-career professionals appear eager to take advantage of the benefits of working in-person with colleagues, while more established Gen Xers\u2014many of whom no longer have small children at home\u2014may be coming into the office to lead by example.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-geographic-variations\">Geographic variations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The finance sector seems to be a leader in RTO. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/surging-law-firm-leasing-provides-office-sector-bright-spot\/\">New York, for example<\/a>, with an office tenant mix heavy with FIRE (financial, insurance and real estate) employees, appears to be \u201cahead of the office recovery curve,\u201d Placer.ai says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miami too is at the front edge of RTO.
