While the company intends to begin construction in the first half of 2024, the start of the project is still pending local approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new facility is slated to support CPKC\u2019s Mexico Midwest Express service that connects midwestern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/next-industrial-hotspot-head-south-and-then-some\/\">U.S. markets with Mexico<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/how-reshoring-impacts-industrial-real-estate\/\">How Reshoring Is Driving Industrial Real Estate Demand<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Project partners include the City of Kansas City, the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, KC SmartPort, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri One Start, Evergy and Spire, together with the Missouri Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kansas City facility will be the first of many to be built on a CPKC railway as part of the firms&#8217; strategic collaboration that was announced in June. Under the terms of the agreement, Americold will co-locate many of its warehouses along the railroad\u2019s network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-expanding-beyond-the-americas\">Expanding beyond the Americas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Americold, a REIT focused on temperature-controlled warehouses, has an extensive portfolio of cold-storage facilities across the world. Overall, the company owns or operates 243 properties totaling approximately 1.5 billion refrigerated cubic feet. While the majority of Americold\u2019s warehouses are in the U.S., the company also has locations in Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration with CPKC will add several new facilities to Americold&#8217;s U.S. development pipeline, but the REIT already saw a major expansion in January 2021, when it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/americold-realty-trust-closes-1-7b-acquisition\/\">acquired Agro Merchants Group<\/a> for more than $1.7 billion.
