The firm defaulted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/la-brookfield-office-tower-goes-to-receivership\/\">loans backing Los Angeles office towers<\/a> worth around $1.1 billion, as well as several office properties in the Washington, D.C., area\u2014backing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/brookfields-default-blackstones-earnings-drop-bellwethers-for-delinquencies\/\">$161.4 million worth of loans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even so, Brookfield made some headway recently with several large leases, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/brookfield-lands-245-ksf-houston-office-lease\/\">245,000-square-foot deal in Houston <\/a>and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/brookfield-lands-74-ksf-tenant-at-manhattan-tower\/\">74,000-square-foot commitment in Manhattan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-cbre-deal-up-close\">The CBRE deal, up close<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the agreement, CBRE will handle building operations, property accounting, procurement services and building technologies. Brookfield will retain the management of cash flow and investments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In prepared remarks, Brookfield Properties President Greg Meyer said the partnership is slated to improve operational efficiency and allow the company to focus on generating value for investors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deal ought to prevent turnover of employees in the case of a property sale, as CBRE will become their employer, according to the same source. CBRE will also leverage its operating partners in serving Brookfield Properties, including data platform <strong>Deepki<\/strong>, coworking space provider <strong>Industrious <\/strong>and tenant platform <strong>VTS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBRE has some 7.3 billion square feet of commercial real estate under management globally across various asset types.
