Biotechnology company Ginkgo Bioworks has decided to lease the entirety of Marcus Partners\u2019 upcoming life science campus in Boston\u2019s Seaport District. The company signed a long-term lease for the 228,000-square-foot property at Parcels O and P at the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park.<\/p>\n

Back in April, Ginkgo Bioworks signed on to be the anchor tenant for the life science project, only committing to 150,000 square feet<\/a>. With the signing of the lease expansion, the company will use the Parcel O site for its new 219,000-square-foot life science building. Marcus Partners will also pursue the adaptive reuse of an existing steel manufacturing structure at Parcel P to serve as a 9,000-square-foot amenity building for the campus.<\/p>\n

Marcus Partners\u2019 Patrick Sousa and Levi Reilly told Commercial Property Executive<\/em> that the company is working with Ginkgo Bioworks to program the amenities at Parcel P.<\/p>\n

Sousa and Reilly, principals at Marcus Partners, also told CPE<\/em> that construction for these parcels is scheduled to start in early 2022, with an expected completion in 2024. John Moriarty & Associates, alongside a minority or women-owned business joint venture partner, will manage the construction process.<\/p>\n

Working on the next parcel<\/h2>\n

The new buildings that Ginkgo Bioworks will occupy are located next to its current headquarters<\/a>, Barry Canton, chief technology officer at Ginkgo Bioworks, said in prepared remarks. Canton added in his prepared statement that the Boston Seaport District has been a thriving area for the biotechnology industry.<\/p>\n

Marcus Partners also filed a letter of intent with the city of Boston for Parcel X, located at 310 Northern Ave., as part of the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park.
