We sat down with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/cities-weathering-the-covid-19-storm-qa\/\">Nuveen\u2019s Jayanth Ganesan<\/a> to talk about the coronavirus-resilient cities better positioned to face the pandemic. Meanwhile, JLL&#8217;s Kevin MacKenzie noted that currently there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/how-a-relatively-liquid-market-is-helping-cre-weather-the-storm\/\">more capital in the market<\/a> than during the Great Financial Crisis, although it&#8217;s not yet business as usual. And, with retail emerging as one of the more better-equipped sectors in the face of the pandemic, we asked industry experts how long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/will-retail-sales-growth-continue\/\">this momentum is likely to last<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, we also got news of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/construction-costs-decrease-for-the-1st-time-in-a-decade\/\">first drop in construction costs<\/a> in a decade, according to Turner Construction Co.\u2019s quarterly Building Cost Index. At the same time, a new forecast from the American Institute of Architects noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/nonresidential-construction-to-decline-aia-report-says\/\">spending on nonresidential development<\/a> is projected to decline through at least part of 2021, following a decrease over the past few months.<\/p>\n<p>Tech giants have made headlines in July, as their profits were positively affected by the pandemic. Facebook has chosen DeKalb, Ill., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/facebook-to-build-800m-data-center-in-metro-chicago\/\">for its 12th data center<\/a> in the U.S. Meanwhile, Amazon is set to invest $250 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/amazon-plans-250m-austin-area-fulfillment-center\/\">a new location just outside Austin<\/a>, Texas, while also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/amazon-inks-full-building-lease-in-metro-austin\/\">expanding its distribution network<\/a> in the Austin metro area. Additionally, the e-commerce behemoth has announced plans to open an 855,000-square-foot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/amazon-to-open-7th-distribution-center-in-tennessee\/\">fulfillment and sortation center in Mt. Juliet<\/a>, Tenn.<\/p>\n<p>July was also a great month for investment vehicles, with KKR completing the final closing of KKR Real Estate Credit Opportunity Partners II, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/kkr-closes-fund-with-950m-in-commitments\/\">capital commitments totaling $950 million<\/a>. Meanwhile, Angelo, Gordon &amp; Co. has raised more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/angelo-gordons-1-5b-fund-targets-european-assets\/\">$1.5 billion in equity commitments<\/a> for its latest European fund, AG Europe Realty Fund III.
