The beginning of the month brought one of the bigger surprises of the year, with Amazon announcing it is set <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/amazon-doubles-down-on-nycs-hudson-yards\/\">to open a Hudson Yards office<\/a> that will house more than 1,500 employees, despite having previously scrapped plans for the New York City HQ2 campus. Later in December, the e-commerce giant also tapped Seefried Industrial Properties to develop a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/amazons-1-4-msf-project-in-florida\/\">1.4 million-square-foot fulfillment center<\/a> in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The end of the fourth quarter generally yields some of the largest transactions of a year and December 2019 was no exception. Among the big-dollar deals closed last month was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/kkr-makes-seattle-debut-with-1-2b-in-office-deals\/\">KKR\u2019s $1.2 billion acquisition<\/a> of\u2014among other assets\u2014most of a downtown skyscraper and a three-building complex in Bellevue, Wash. Completing the list were Sumitomo Corp. of Americas&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/sumitomo-corp-of-americas-eyes-phoenix-for-major-expansion\/\">purchase of the Collier Center in Phoenix<\/a>, and Sealy\u2019s disposition of a multi-state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/sealy-garners-909m-on-us-industrial-portfolio-sale\/\">16.3 million-square-foot industrial portfolio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And as the month and year were coming to an end, we looked back at the most important <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/the-most-pivotal-cre-stories-of-2019\/\">commercial real estate stories of 2019<\/a>.
