Dubbed Long Draw solar project, the development will be located in Borden County, Texas, and will serve the municipalities of New Braunfels, Denton, Garland and Kerrville and their electric utilities via a power purchase agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Long Draw will consist of more than 800,000 solar panels with 204 Greenpower inverters and is anticipated to come online in the summer of 2020. It will also mark the largest solar project in ENGIE\u2019s portfolio, which currently totals 2,500 megawatts of new renewable capacity in North America and another 10,000MW of solar and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/engie-north-america-closes-financing-for-200mw-tx-wind-project\/\">wind projects<\/a> in its broader development pipeline in the U.S. and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>During peak construction, the development will employ some 150 people and will generate total estimated tax payments to Borden County and the Borden County Independent School District. These are estimated to total more than $10 million over the life of the project.<\/p>\n<p>The power purchase agreement\u2014which has a 15-year term\u2014originated from a request for proposals for solar power issued by New Braunfels Utilities. The entity partnered with Denton Municipal Electric, Garland Power &amp; Light and Kerrville Public Utility Board for the entire capacity of ENGIE\u2019s Long Draw project. The contract will help them diversify their power supplies and keep retail electricity rates low.
