The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has announced the completion of the state\u2019s largest battery installation. The 20-megawatt energy storage system supports Governor Cuomo\u2019s Green New Deal<\/a> and will serve New York\u2019s electrical system by enhancing power grid performance and reliability while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

The project, dubbed KCE NY 1, is located in Saratoga County and is the largest lithium-ion battery storage project in the northeastern U.S. It was built by Key Capture Energy, an independent developer of utility-scale battery storage founded in 2016 in Houston. The company relocated in 2018 to downtown Albany, N.Y. in partnership with the University at Albany and the state\u2019s START-UP NY program administered by Empire State Development.<\/p>\n

KCE NY 1 is the first project of its kind to be completed since Governor Cuomo announced the state\u2019s Market Acceleration Bridge Incentive Program in April, which included $150 million for bulk storage projects for systems larger than 5MW that primarily provide wholesales market energy or distribution service. Key Capture Energy was awarded $1.3 million from NYSERDA under this incentive for the KCE NY 1 project.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
