Nanning China Resources Center Tower<\/p><\/div>\n

The world will soon get another supertall building\u2014a structure exceeding 300 meters, or nearly 1,000 feet in height\u2014now that Nanning China Resources Center Tower in Nanning, China, has topped out. Chicago-based Goettsch Partners designed the 1,322-foot tall, 2.9 million-square-foot, mixed-use skyscraper on behalf of developer China Resources Land Ltd.<\/p>\n

Standing 85 stories above Minzu Ave., CRC Tower will be the tallest building in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Province, upon its completion. Paul De Santis, design partner with Goettsch Partners, said in a prepared statement that the property, which will also be capped with an illuminated crown, \u201cwill create a new, identifiable silhouette for the city.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

CRC Tower will encompass approximately 1.8 million square feet of office accommodations, 63,800 square feet of retail space and the 336-key Shangri-La Hotel Nanning, and it will offer a direct underground connection to public transportation.<\/p>\n

An all-glass exterior resembling the fractured, etched surface of a gemstone will further enhance the potency of CRC Tower\u2019s staggering height. Additionally, GP has designed the skyscraper to meet requirements for LEED-CS Gold certification, with the glass fa\u00e7ade serving as one of the property\u2019s greenest features.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeeting LEED-CS Gold standards, the tower\u2019s high-performance fa\u00e7ade, convenient connections to mass transit, and state-of-the-art infrastructure will establish the benchmark for a first-class development in Nanning,\u201d<\/em> De Santis said.<\/p>\n

New heights<\/strong><\/h2>\n

CRC Tower will be the tallest completed building in GP\u2019s design portfolio, but the mixed-use property is not the firm\u2019s only supertall undertaking. GP is behind the design of JDL Development\u2019s proposed One Chicago Square, a 1,046-foot, luxury residential project in Chicago, and Optics Valley Center, a 1,321-foot office tower planned by the Greenland Group in Wuhan, China.<\/p>\n

Currently, China leads the world in supertall buildings, with 68 such completed structures, followed by the U.A.E. and the U.S., with 26 and 21 supertall buildings, respectively, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. In the U.S., One World Trade Center remains the tallest building in the country<\/a> at 1,776 feet.<\/p>\n
